June 18, 2025, update:
The recount of the ballots cast during the June 3, 2025, Pierre City Commission election have been recounted (July 18, 2025) and the results remain the same.
There was a 10 vote margin between Matthew Reitzel and Kevin Larsen. Larsen submitted his formal request for a recount after the official vote canvass last week (June 10, 2025).
City Finance Officer Lacey Walz says the results will be officially canvassed again at next week’s city commission meeting.
Walz says the recount process went well.
Hughes County Finance Officer Thomas Oliva (olive-a) oversaw the recount.
Robin Lerseth was the top vote getter in the Pierre City Commission election with 592. She was followed by Reitzel at 415. Both will take their oath of office for a three year term in early July.

June 18, 2025:
The ballots cast during the June 3, 2025, Pierre City Commission election will be recounted this morning (July 18, 2025).
There was a 10 vote margin between Matthew Reitzel and Kevin Larsen. Larsen submitted his formal request for a recount after the official vote canvass last week (June 10, 2025).
City Finance Officer Lacey Walz says the recount will take place at 9am in the Hughes County Finance Office located in the Hughes County Courthouse in Pierre.
The vote totals show Robin Lerseth was the top vote getter with 592. She was followed by Reitzel at 415, Larsen at 405, Blake Barringer at 396 and John Childs at 283.

June 11, 2025:
There will be a recount of the ballots cast during the Pierre City Commission election held June 3, 2025.
Kevin Larsen submitted his formal request after the official vote canvass Tuesday (June 10, 2025) during the Pierre City Commission meeting.
During the vote canvass, City Finance Officer Lacey Walz said Robin Lerseth and Matthew Reitzel were the top two vote getters.
Walz recapped the voter turnout and busiest times for voting.
Because the difference between Reitzel and Kevin Larsen was 10 votes, that’s within the margin where a recount could be requested. More information about that process will be shared once those details are worked out.

June 4, 2025:
Out of a field of five candidates, the unofficial results from Tuesday’s (June 3, 2025) Pierre City Commission election have Robin Lerseth and Matthew Reitzel winning the two, three-year terms.
Hughes County Finance Officer Thomas Oliva oversaw the ballot counting. He said voter turnout was 10.5%.
There was also 10.5% voter turnout for the Stanley County School Board election held on Tuesday. Unofficial numbers show Ty Norman won that election.
Ballot totals are not official until they are canvassed by the respective entities.
