Representative Mike Weisgram of Fort Pierre has officially announced (March 24, 2026) his re-election bid for one of District 24’s two spots in the South Dakota House of Representatives.
The district encompasses Haakon, Hughes, Hyde, Stanley, and Sully Counties.
Weisgram, first elected in 2020, recently concluded his sixth legislative session in Pierre. He joins a republican primary field that includes Laurie Gill of Pierre and Regan Bollweg of Harrold.
Weisgram currently serves as the Chair of both the House Commerce and Energy Committee and the House Retirement Laws Committee. His legislative experience also includes service on the House Taxation, Local Government, and Health and Human Services committees.
Weisgram says his legislative priorities remain “rooted in his decades of experience as a local business owner.” He says his platform focuses on:

Housing & Growth: Expanding housing opportunities to support South Dakota’s workforce.

Local Control: Advocating for the autonomy of city and county governments and local governing boards.
The primary election will be held June 2, 2026.
Prior to being elected to the State Legislature, Weisgram was a local business owner for 37 years. His commitment to public service includes five years on the Fort Pierre City Council, as well as countless hours spent on various volunteer boards and commissions.
Mike has been married to his wife, Judy, for 46 years. They have two grown daughters and six grandchildren.
The Fort Pierre Chamber of Commerce will host a Candidate Forum at the Pat Duffy Community Youth Involved Center in Fort Pierre (19 East Main Street) on Thursday, April 23, 2026, beginning at 6pm CT. All candidates seeking election for Stanley County School Board, Stanley County Sheriff, Stanley County Commission, Fort Pierre Mayor and City Council, District 24 Senate and District 24 House are invited to participate. The Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce Government Outreach Committee, DRG Media Group and Riverfront Broadcasting are working out details regarding a candidate forum for the Pierre School Board, Pierre mayor, Hughes County, District 24 House of Representatives and District 24 Senate candidates.
