June 23, 2025:
A 73 year old man from Lead died in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning (June 19, 2025, at 10:30am) on Highway 14A in Deadwood.
Preliminary crash information indicates Joseph Bernard Schumacher, the driver of a 2011 Honda Ridgeline was traveling west on US Highway 14A near mile marker 40 when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound Ford F-550 driven by Robert Ray Stagner. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lanes.
Schumacher was pronounced deceased at the scene. Stagner was not injured.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2011 Honda Ridgeline was traveling west on US Highway 14A near mile marker 40 when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound Ford F-550, driven by a 59 year old man from Deadwood. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lanes.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford was not injured.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
