Sept. 10, 2025:
The Pierre Police Department has released a few more details today (Sept. 10, 2025) about an incident that happened about mid-morning Tuesday at Georgia Morse Middle School in Pierre.
Captain Dusty Pelle says two handguns were seized from the 13 year old male student that was taken into custody. Contrary to rumors that are circulating, he says the initial investigation indicates that the student did NOT make any threats and there was NOT a list or lists of names possessed by the student.
After the situation was resolved Tuesday, Pierre School District Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt told DRG Media Group that another student had reported the presence of the firearms to a GMMS staff member, who followed school policy and the situation was peacefully resolved “within minutes.”
Glodt says the student that reported the firearm being at school did exactly what they should have done. As a reminder, he says students are not allowed to bring firearms onto school property.
The name of the student involved has not been released. Again, the incident is still under investigation.
