About a dozen races will be run this weekend (Oct. 4-5, 2025) during the 77th annual Verendrye Benevolent Association horse races at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre.
Track Manager Shane Kramme says it takes months of preparation to host two days of horse races.
Kramme says doors open at 11am CT on both Saturday and Sunday.
From betting on the races to wearing your best Kentucky Derby-style attire, Kramme says attendees have opportunities to win prizes.
Admission to the Verendrye Benevolent Association horse races Saturday and Sunday at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre costs $10 at the door. Ages 16 years and under are admitted for free.

The only two days of horse racing in South Dakota will be held Oct. 4-5, 2025, at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre.
The Verendrye Benevolent Association hosts the races and Track Manager Shane Kramme says the horses competing come from around the area.
With limited funding available for prizes, Kramme says drawing horses to race in South Dakota is challenging.
Kramme says for those who would like to participate, parimutual wagering is an option again this year.
This is the 77th year of horse racing in Fort Pierre.
