The high school basketball season kicked off for most schools in Class A and B Tuesday night, and the Chamberlain Cubs hit the road and headed to Parkview to take on the Lady Buffaloes. The Lady Cubs boasted a size advantage in the contest, but the Lady Buffaloes looked for their sharp shooters to keep them in it from outside the arc.
The game started with a Kali Randall three, foreshadowing a night of offense for both sides. The Lady Buffaloes hoped to find offense in the paint, but Chamberlain was consistent in turning away any offense underneath. The Lady Buffaloes, instead, found success outside as Kyni Hall hit a couple big threes off the bench.
Both teams found themselves in foul trouble early, so the benches were required from both teams. Cubs star Natalie Nelson was forced to sit for a majority of the first half and the start of the second half with three early fouls, but when she returned, so did Chamberlains rhythm. The Cubs got some big baskets from Taleyna McBride-Wingert to help pad a lead, but Addy Deal and JoRayah Walker continued to answer back keeping the game tight.
At one point, the Lady Buffaloes cut the deficit to three in the second half, but Nelson took over the game when she returned finishing with 15-points and helping the Cubs to a 50-38 win.
Deal led the Lady Buffaloes in scoring with 14-points as Stanley County fell to 0-1 while the Cubs start 1-0. Stanley County will play Miller in a boys and girls doubleheader on Thursday, coverage will be on KPLO. Chamberlain will play Todd County on Saturday.
