Tuesday night, two of the most potent offenses in South Dakota clashed as the Lyman Raiders visited the Sully Buttes Chargers. The anticipation around this game was palpable, both teams harboring sharp shooters and size, two teams in Lyman and Sully Buttes that were seemingly made to play each other.
Sully Buttes returns most of their key players in Wesley Wittler, Gavin Colson, Easton Moore and others. The Raiders also hold some of the top offensive attackers in MJ Diehm, Dawsen Volmer and Canyon Garnos. Most believed this game would be a high-scoring, back-and-forth between two high powered offenses, and that’s exactly what we got.
Lyman stepped out in front early taking a 14-11 lead after the first quarter, a 23-23 second quarter made the score 34-31 at the half with Diehm leading the Raiders with 12-points and Wittler leading the Chargers with 13.
The second half was much of the same, not as much offense, but still tight. The Chargers were able to scratch away at the miniscule deficit and tie it up at 47 apiece heading to the fourth quarter. In the final frame, both teams were burying buckets, however, a few late steals from Wittler would ice the game and secure the 67-61 win for Sully Buttes.
The Chargers were led by Wittler who scored 25, Gavin Colson also having a nice night with 15 and Jett Yackley with 13. For the Raiders, Diehm went haywire in the second half hitting four-threes and finishing with 28-points. The Raiders fall to 1-1 while the Chargers start 1-0 on the season.
