An elderly Kansas woman who’d been reported missing and was the subject of what’s known as a Silver Alert was found in Hamlin County Thursday afternoon (Jan. 1, 2026).
A sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle for lane driving on Highway 81, a mile north of Lake Poinsett at 4 p.m. The deputy confirmed the woman behind the wheel was an 86 year-old from Wichita, Kansas who’d been the subject of the Silver Alert issued by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
A Silver Alert is similar to an Amber Alert, but involves the search for a missing elderly person. In this case, the woman, whose name was not released, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, and arrangements were being made to safely reunite her with family members.
