Former Pierre quarterback Lincoln Kienholz has announced that he will be transferring to Louisville for his second to last year of college football eligibility. Kienholz entered the transfer portal following Ohio State’s loss to Miami in the College Football Playoff, and numerous schools were rumored to be his next landing spot. However, many of the pundits did not foresee Louisville as his next destination.
Kienholz battled with Julian Sayin, who was a Heisman finalist in 2025, for the starting spot with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Head coach Ryan Day said the competition came down to the wire, and if you take him at his word then the Cardinals are getting one of the best quarterbacks in the portal.
In their third season under head coach Jeff Brohm, Louisville went 9-4 overall, including a 4-4 record in the ACC play. Louisville is coming off a 27-22 win over Toledo in the Boca Raton Bowl. The Cardinals have won at least nine games in all three seasons under Brohm, doing so for the first time since 2012-14.
Kienholz is expected to be the day one starter for the Cardinals in 2026.
