Jan. 13, 2026:
Two people died in a single vehicle crash Saturday evening (Jan. 10, 2026, at 10:12pm) 10 miles north of Hill City, SD.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2003 Toyota 4Runner was traveling southbound near mile marker 92 on US 385. The vehicle went off the road to the right, over-corrected and rolled several times, coming to rest in the east ditch. Both occupants, 22 year old Echo Orion Calatrello from Sturgis, and 22 year old Nicholas Lord Jackson, Jr., from Deadwood, were ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. The investigation into which occupant was driving is ongoing at this time.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2003 Toyota 4Runner was traveling southbound near mile marker 92 on US 385. The vehicle went off the road to the right, tipped and rolled several times, coming to rest in the east ditch. Both occupants– a 22 year old female from Sturgis and a 22 year old male from Deadwood– were ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. It is unknown who was driving the vehicle.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
