MOBRIDGE (KOLY)- The spread of Influenza continues to increase in the United States with South Dakota seeing 1287 new positive cases, 61 new hospitalizations and 4 new deaths according to the South Dakota Department of Health Influenza Dashboard. The South Dakota total is now 5,270 with 333 total hospitalizations and 6 deaths.
Walworth and Potter Counties went from zero cases the last couple of weeks to 3 each this week. Minnehaha County has the most cases in the state with a total of 1860 positive cases reported. The new influenza related deaths were from Minnehaha, Lincoln and Meade counties.
There are now 207 total cases of H3N2 (subtype K) in the latest report released Thursday (Jan. 14, 2026). The spread of the H3 variant is trending upward while Type A Unspecified is averaging about 1200 new cases a week over the last 3 weeks since in South Dakota.
