Feb. 24, 2026, update:
The America’s 250th South Dakota Commission held a ceremonial ringing of South Dakota’s Liberty Bell Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2026) across from the State Capitol in Pierre.
State Historian Dr. Ben Jones shared the history of South Dakota’s Liberty Bell.
Governor Larry Rhoden said he has a long family history of military service.
America’s 250th South Dakota Commission member Senator Tim Reed from Brookings said the bell ringing celebrated “250 years since the birth of an idea that changed the world.”
Jones ended the Liberty Bell Ringing event by mentioning a new museum display that’s in the State Capitol Building.

Feb. 24, 2026:
The America’s 250th South Dakota Commission will be hosting a ceremonial ringing of South Dakota’s Liberty Bell today (Feb. 24, 2026) at 12:30pm on the front lawn of the Soldiers & Sailors Building across from the State Capitol in Pierre (425 East Capitol Ave.).
The ceremonial ringing is to bring attention to South Dakota’s Liberty Bell and to the newly installed Founder’s Museum on the first floor of the Capitol Building.
Governor Larry Rhoden, Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen, Senator Tim Reed from Brookings and State Historian Dr. Ben Jones will be speaking.
