Highmore-Harrold hosted Tiospaye Topa Monday night with the season on the line for both, and both teams came out firing on all cylinders early with two clashing styles of play. The Thunderhawks were intent on scoring from outside the arc while the Pirates lived in the post.
With the Pirates taking an early lead, Tiospaye Topa had plenty of early answers from outside the arc with Richard Smith and Jakolby Rousseau both knocking down a couple threes. However, Highmore-Harrold went to senior Jordan Erfman early and often, which would be a running theme throughout the contest.
Erfman would score 22 points in the first half, most of which second-chance opportunities as he commanded the paint. The Thunderhawks just simply could not keep pace with the inside presence of Erfman. Highmore-Harrold also got plenty of production from budding sophomore star Brooks McPeak who also finished the first half in double-digits with 14.
Tiospaye Topa hit their fair share of threes, but the Pirates were just too dominant inside as Erfman continued to get any look he wanted, building on his first half performance and subbing out in the fourth with 37 points. Erfman earned CHS River Plains Player of the Game honors as the Pirates stormed to a 75-50 win.
Highmore-Harrold will head to Onida Tuesday night to take on the Sully Buttes Chargers on KMLO. The pregame will begin at 6:45 PM CT with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM. You can also watch this game live on DRGnews.com/KMLO.
