The Pierre Police Department and the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office are investigating instances of thefts from unlocked vehicles, garages and homes late Sunday night into early Monday morning (March 22-23, 2026).
Information from the Pierre Police Department says they received reports of a suspicious individual observed attempting to open a residential door, as well as a theft from an unlocked vehicle on Lakewood Drive. Another resident also reported that an unknown person entered their garage on W. Pleasant Drive. The investigation into these incidents is ongoing.
In a Monday Facebook post, the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office said they’d taken several reports of persons going into closed garages and homes stealing items. Most of the items were in unlocked parked cars in unlocked garages. However, in a couple of instances the sheriff’s office says items were taken from inside the homes after entry was gained from an unlocked door.
The law enforcement agencies say it’s a good idea to make sure doors from garages into homes, doors from garages to the outside and vehicle doors are all locked, even if the garage is closed. Residents are encouraged to contact the police department if they observe suspicious activity.
