The Fertilizer Institute is encouraging lawmakers to continue work on a new farm bill after the Senate Agriculture Committee failed to advance legislation during last week’s markup.
TFI says it supports several provisions in the committee proposal aimed at conservation, agricultural innovation, and improved market information for farmers.
TFI President and CEO Corey Rosenbusch praised committee members for recognizing the role nutrient stewardship and innovation play in helping producers remain productive while protecting natural resources.
“We share the goal of improving transparency across the global and domestic fertilizer supply chain,” Rosenbusch said.
The organization also continues to support the creation of a Crop Inputs Economist within USDA’s Office of the Chief Economist. TFI says the position would provide independent analysis of fertilizer and other crop input markets, including supply, demand, production, trade, and pricing trends. The group says transparency efforts should help farmers without creating unintended consequences for competition, domestic production, or growers.
