ICE arrests jumped to nearly 50,000 in July, the highest monthly total of Trump’s second term

WASHINGTON (AP) — Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested nearly 50,000 people in July 2026. That marks the highest single-month total during the second Trump administration. The numbers come from the U.C. Berkeley Deportation Data Project. The spike follows a recalibrated immigration enforcement approach after Homeland Security officers shot two protesters in Minneapolis in January. The increase began in June and accelerated in July, with less public exposure than during Trump’s first year. Texas and Florida accounted for nearly 20,000 of the July arrests. The agency has been bolstered by billions of dollars from Congress and has hired 12,000 new deportation officers and agents.
