MOBRIDGE, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Lady Tigers continued their strong start to the 2026 volleyball season with back-to-back three-set sweeps over Herreid/Selby Area and Gettysburg, putting together an undefeated home stretch to open Homecoming Week. The Lady Tigers are now unbeaten on the season and have yet to drop a set through their first three matches.
Mobridge-Pollock opened Homecoming Week Tuesday, September 1, with a big win over Herreid/Selby Area. The Lady Tigers found themselves trailing for much of the opening set but battled back late to take the first set 25-21. From there, Mobridge-Pollock settled in and played some of its best volleyball of the young season, with the underclassmen continuing to make an impact. The Lady Tigers also showed noticeable improvement from the season opener, especially at the service line, where they cut down on errors. Defensively, Brooke Merkel stood out in the back row and was named the Burger King Player of the Game. Avery Schlomer and Sophie Keller continued to provide steady play at setter, while freshman hitters Hayleigh Schlomer and Bentley Bauer also turned in strong performances. The win was especially meaningful after Herreid/Selby Area defeated Mobridge-Pollock in three sets the last time the teams met, following a five-set win by the Lady Tigers the year before.
The Lady Tigers followed that performance with another impressive three-set sweep Thursday, September 3, against Gettysburg. Mobridge-Pollock played perhaps its cleanest match of the season, limiting service errors, avoiding the unforced mistakes that had affected parts of the opener and communicating well throughout the match. The entire team seemed to be in sync, with the hitters having an especially strong night. Pacey Konold, Quinn Kemnitz and Hayleigh Schlomer all put together good performances, while Bentley Bauer stood out once again and earned Burger King Player of the Game honors. With the win, Mobridge-Pollock finished Homecoming Week undefeated and without dropping a set.
It was an excellent week for the Lady Tigers, who showed steady improvement with each match and now turn their attention to a tough stretch on the road. Mobridge-Pollock will play its first road match of the season Tuesday, September 8, at North Central and will not return home until hosting Stanley County on October 1.
