The Walworth County Commission approved the County’s 2027 Annual Budget at their regular meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd. They also discussed and approved new insurance coverage for county employees.
Highway
Walworth County Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan told the commissioners that he will be advertising to hire a secretary to train to replace the current secretary who will be leaving in December.
Approval of the five-year highway plan was tabled to the next meeting so that all commissioners have time to look it over.
Commissioner Jim Houck told Hannan he has had some positive feedback on road conditions in the County.
Landfill
Commissioner Duane Mohr had the Landfill’s monthly report.
Sheriff
Walworth County Sheriff Josh Boll presented a spending report for January thru June for housing, medical, wages, and transport.
Sheriff Boll said his department is seeing a savings in housing and transportation costs because they are able to travel shorter distances with the Edmunds County jail housing contract.
Register of Deeds
Walworth County Register of Deeds Brenda DeToy gave the commissioners an update on the new Vital Records program.
Security Committee
Commissioner Justin Jungwirth said the Security Committee wants to install fencing around the gas and propane tanks on the Courthouse grounds.
Jungwirth also talked about more having more mirrors in the Courthouse, as well as a barrier in the State’s Attorney’s office.
The commissioners gave approval for gathering estimates on both projects.
Auditor
Walworth County Auditor Kim Dills had the numbers for August.
Auditor Dills is looking into updating the County’s website to be more user-friendly and has found a company called Factor 360 out of Pierre. Funds are not available in the current budget, so the board tabled approval to the next meeting so it can be added into the 2027 budget.
Lyle Perman will be appointed in January as the board member to NECOG.
The commissioners approved ordering three AED devices: for the Courthouse, the Highway Department, and the Landfill.
Selby Fire Chief Curt Rawstern had some questions for the commissioners regarding guidelines on the rural fire levy.
