Dale Alfred Kastner passed peacefully on April 7, 2022 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, SD at the age of 78. He leaves behind his son, Brett Kastner (Lisa); daughter, Lori Tucker (Lloyd); his grandchildren, Sara Perry(Ryan), Ashley Ramsey(Kyle), Christopher Kastner, David Kastner(Emily), and Nicholas Kastner; and 4 great grandchildren.
Dale was born February 16, 1944 in Garrison, ND to his father Alfred Kastner and mother, Mabel Kastner(Simonson). He grew up there on the family farm and at the age of 4 survived a bout of
Diphtheria thanks to the brand-new drug, Penicillin. He graduated from Garrison High School in 1962. He also attended North Dakota School of Mines and graduated in 1963.
Dale met and married the love of his life, Sharon Dwelle, after a blind date in 1963. They started their lives together in Riverdale, ND where Dale worked at the Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery. In 1966 Dale and Sharon moved to Oakes, ND where Dale transferred to the Bureau of Reclamation. In 1972 they resided in Salida, CO before moving to Huron, SD in 1974. They spent many happy years together, ending up in Fort Pierre, SD for the last 43 years. He worked for the Army Corp of Engineers for 35 years, from 1978 to 2013 when he retired. After entering retirement, Dale and Sharon liked spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona where they were able to enjoy their time together and made many friends. Dale was a hardworking man with a quiet demeanor and quick wit. He enjoyed cooking and barbecuing, spending his afternoons watching old westerns, and he hated to miss a Denver Broncos game. Dale and
Sharon spent their days with friends and family enjoying life on the Missouri River, and their nights as devoted members of the Moose Fraternity. Dale was also an avid hunter and fisherman, never passing up an opportunity to take a hunting trip with his grandsons.
Dale is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as his sisters, Darlene Friese(Joe), Arlyce Kaufman(Jerry), and his brother Al Kastner(Marie), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, mother, father, and baby granddaughter Jacinta.
To honor Dale’s wishes, a service will be held this summer to place his and Sharon’s ashes together in their final resting place. The exact location and date of the service will be announced at a later time. Cards, letters, and condolences may be sent to 709 LaFramboise Dr., Ft Pierre, SD 57532.
