Funeral services for Joseph Bowman, 43, of Eagle Butte will be at 11 AM, Monday, April 25, 2022, at the Eagle Butte School. Burial will be at the Eagle Butte Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will be start at 7 PM Sunday at the Landmark Hall. Joseph passed away Sunday, April 15, 2022, at his home.
Joseph Ryan Bowman “Lil Joe”, 43, was born in Eagle Butte, SD on August 14, 1978 and passed away in Eagle Butte, SD on April 15, 2022. He was the third child of Joseph “Big Joe” and Ginger Bowman. He attended all his school days at Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Schools. In grade school, Lil Joe wrestled in AAU. In high school, Joe wrestled. He rode bulls and team roped with Aaron Webb. He graduated from high school in 1996. In the fall of 1996, he attended Western Dakota Vo-Tech and graduated in 1998. Upon his return home, Lil Joe worked for Bryce Peterson for three years. Next, Lil Joe worked for his Dad, Big Joe. In 2004, Lil Joe worked for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe until 2017. During those years at CRST, Lil Joe worked for Prairie Management, and Land & Natural Resources. About 2017-2018, Lil Joe started moving trailers for people. Lil Joe would even go as far as leveling the trailer and skirting the trailer for the owners. Lil Joe was a jack of all trade. He would help people unthaw their frozen pipes, be out in the frigid cold while making sure someone had water. Lil Joe helped Cheryl Dupris and Nikki White Eyes, anytime they would call for help for their businesses.
On June 1, 2012, Lil Joe married Lexi Keckler. To this union the couple warmly welcomed their first daughter, Suni, on May 26, 2009. In addition, they welcomed their second daughter, Rowie, on May 18, 2011. Lil Joe was a funny, protective, Dad, whom loved to cook, and was infamously late. Lil Joe made big breakfast every Sunday for his girls, cooked different variations of eggs for Suni. Lil Joe always made his girls laugh. And, Lil Joe was a great baker, especially banana bread. Lil Joe loved to grill out. He didn’t like animals but he liked them enough for his girls. He got a cat ‘Nunpa’ and a dog ‘Teddy’ for the girls.
Lil Joe loved to play pool, watch movies with his girls, play cards, poker, and euchre with Larry. Lil Joe was known for disliking pictures being taken of him, he would hide or you would have to catch him on the sly. Rarely would he pose for a picture, so what pictures have been found of him are truly treasures.
Lil Joe was survived by his mother, Ginger Bowman, his two daughters Suni and Rowie and their Mother Lexi of Eagle Butte, South Dakota, sisters Ravae and Misti of Pierre, South Dakota, his brothers Jim (Jennifer), Leo (Memory) all of Eagle Butte, South Dakota, Justin (Jonni) of Mobridge, SD. His nieces Emily, Michelle, Hannah, Phoenix all of Pierre, SD, Lily, K’Leigh and HaLeigh of Mobridge, SD, nephews Daniel, Zander and Ryan, and nieces Summer, Addison, Reagan, Hillary all of Eagle Butte, SD, and Caleb Moore of Missoula, Montana. His Uncle John (Jaren) Bowman of Las Vegas, Nevada, cousin Jep Bowman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Uncle Jim (Gloria) Bowman of Rapid City, South Dakota, and cousin John Bowman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He is proceeded in death by his infant, Baby Bowman, father, Joseph “Big Joe” Bowman, grandparents, Lyle and Mary Bowman, Edward and Evelyn Dupris, Aunt Elaine “Renee” Cook, Aunt Jo Red Willow, niece Romy Rabbit and cousins Jenny and Mary Bowman.
