Mildred Marilyn (Schilling) Vojta was born on June 16, 1933 in Akaska, SD.
She passed away May 20, 2022 in Selby, SD.
Millie was the fourth of eight children from the Bill and Othelia Schilling family of Akaska, SD. She attended the Heier school in rural Akaska until the 8th grade. Millie lived at home and helped her father on the family farm until age 18 when she moved to Mobridge, SD to begin work at the hospital as a nurse’s aide.
During her time in Mobridge she met Frank M. Vojta, Jr. of Glenham, SD and they were married on June 5, 1956. Millie moved to Glenham where she supported Frank in managing the Vojta family farm and they raised three children Leo, Theresa, and Cathy.
In 1975 Millie began work at the Mobridge Care Center as an aide where she was known for hard work and her quick wit. Her role as a caregiver was sidelined in August 1984 when she was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome. She spent the following 15 months in recovery at hospitals in South and North Dakota, but never fully recovered her ability to walk without assistance. True to her childhood nickname “Tuffy”, Millie adapted to her new life with grace. On many days it took her hours to perform routine tasks, like making her bed while in a wheelchair, but she always got the job done.
On July 10, 2000, her husband Frank passed away. Mille continued to live in the family home in Glenham until 2014 when she returned to the Mobridge Care Center as a resident. Her kindness was remembered by many from her time there as an aide. Millie moved to the Walworth County Care center where she remained until her passing.
Millie will be deeply missed by her family: son, Leo and Sheri Vojta; daughter, Theresa Weisbeck; daughter, Catherine and Brian Carlson; grandson, Eric and Kyle Teller; granddaughter, Samantha and Tommy Snell; and 3 great-grandsons, Frankie, Felix, and Leon Snell; brother Wilton (Hooch) and Gladys Schilling; sisters Joann Tabbert, DeAnn and Paul Fuhrman; sister in-law Shirley Schilling; brother in-law Jim Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
