Thomas Lee Bennett of Mobridge, died Thursday June 9, 2022 in his home in Mobridge.
A Committal service will be conducted at the Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors on June 24, 2022 at 3 PM.
Tom was born September 22,1945 in Dickinson North Dakota to Morris Bennett and Margaret (Pack) Bennett. He has two younger brothers: James Morris Bennett and Russell Seeley Bennett. They spent their early years on a farm near Griffen North Dakota before moving to Bowman where they attended school. Tom liked living in town as opposed to being sequestered on the farm and acquired wheels (a bicycle) so there was no stopping him. He was an entrepreneur at an early age. Working at the family drugstore he learned he could buy candy bars wholesale by the box. He then sold them to friends and acquaintances at a profit. On the 4th of July he sold Cherry Bombs out his bedroom window. Tom graduated Bowman High School in 1963 and his business ventures grew throughout his life.
In 1965 he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the major communication relay ship Annapolis.
In 1968 Tom entered into his 1st marriage and welcomed 2 boys: Thomas James Russell on October 15,1968 and William George Henry on August 1, 1972. During that time he co-owned and operated Capital Trophy and Engraving and Northern Trophy and Engraving in North Dakota.
He later entered into a second marriage and adopted a daughter, Merab Lizett. Tom spent the next 10 years acquiring, starting and operating numerous businesses.
From 1984 to 1992 Tom hung his hat in many places. He had a network of great friends and enjoyed introducing them to each other and putting them together to help solve each other’s dilemmas or work through business problems or just shoot the breeze. He would often put two of his friends that didn’t know each other on a conference call and then sit back and listen as the conversation took off and new friends were made.
Tom married Tamra Bachmeier in Lead in 2003. Tamra brought one adult daughter into the marriage, Rickie Ann and her son Braydon. In 2005 they all moved home to Mobridge where Tom and Tamra entered into many business ventures but their true passion and calling was spiritual. In their spare time they read and studied the countless books that Tom had collected over the years. The two of them wrote two books together. They published transcripts and republished many books. In December 2021 they finished a year-long project then Tom fell ill. He said he felt his work was finished. Through the illness Tom continued to be a loving husband, Father, Grandfather and Mentor until he was no longer able.
Tom will be deeply missed by his wife Tamra. He leaves his son Bill Bennett (Escondido, Ca.) 2 daughters, Rickie Hagen (Mobridge) and Merab Bennett (Bismarck.) His brother Jim Bennett (Vittoria) (Mesa, Az.) and Russ Bennett (Sandi) (Spicer, Mn.) Grands: Brandon Bennett (Olivia) U. S. Navy, Brooklynn Bennett (Sturgis), Christian Bennett (Escondido, Ca.) Braydon Hagen (Mobridge), Great Grand: Lyra Bennett and many many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death are his Grandparents, Alfred Woodbine Pack and Anna Loger Pack, Abram Bennett and Tillie Bennett. His parents Morris and Margaret Bennett and one son, Thomas James Russell Bennett.
