Rodney (Rod) LeRoy Senger, 75, of Mobridge, South Dakota passed away Friday, June 17 at St. Alexius Health Medical Center in Bismarck, ND. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23 from 6:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mobridge, SD. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mobridge, with a burial at the Glencross Community Cemetery.
Rod was born in Mobridge, SD on September 1, 1946, to Wendelin (WA) and Katherine (Schweitzer) Senger. Shortly after, Rod, his three older sisters, and his parents moved into the Glencross farmhouse. Rod attended grade school in Glencross and then graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1964. In the fall of 1964, Rod moved to Aberdeen, SD, where he worked full time at Brown County Implement and attended Northern State College. On September 3, 1966, Rod married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy (Holzer) Senger. In June of 1967, Rod and Dorothy moved back to the farm in Glencross to help his parents and brothers with the livestock and field work. They remained there until he and Dorothy moved to Mobridge in April of 2016. While at the farm, Rod and Dorothy raised two boys, Kevin and Keith.
Rod spent most of his life milking cows and farming in the Glencross area, a place he was proud to call home. He could make or fix ANYTHING and was always willing to help anyone in need. He overhauled tractor engines, kept the water flowing in the City of Timber Lake and TC&G Rural Water Systems, and always returned anything he borrowed in better condition. He would stop along the road to give someone a ride, pull people out of the ditch during midnight blizzards, but as rumor has it, also added 10 pounds of sugar to a “temporary” gas tank for the son of a “gun” who was syphoning gas out of the swather.
Rod is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Mobridge, SD and two sons: Kevin (Amy) Senger of Newcastle, WY and Keith (Kari) Senger of Pierre, SD. He was the proud grandpa of four grandchildren: Andrew (Taylor) Senger of Miles City, MT, Jaden Senger of Miles City, MT, Austin Senger of Pierre, SD, and Taryn Senger of Brookings, SD; and would have been excited about his soon to be great grandchild (Andrew and Taylor). He is also survived by three sisters: Donna (Frank) Quinn of Timber Lake, SD, Elaine (Dan) Niemeier of Irving, TX, and Kathy (Bob) Daczewitz of Spearfish, SD; two brothers: Terry Senger of Colorado Springs, CO, and Dennis (Cindy) Senger of Colorado Springs, CO; and many nieces and nephews. Rod was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rosemarie Barton.
Condolences can be sent to Dorothy Senger, 803 10th Street West, Mobridge, SD 57601.
