Stanley County High School Graduation is being held Sunday (May 17) at noon– but, with some twists.
Weather permitting, it’ll be held on the school football field and broadcast live on the school’s gobuffslive.com website. The actual ceremony will be open only to graduating seniors and their immediate families. Seniors will have assigned seats appropriately spaced around the football field and families will watch the ceremony from their car. Each family will be allowed one car and cars will be spaced around the track in assigned spots.
At noon, the traditional “Pomp & Circumstance” will be played to begin the ceremony as seniors take their seats on the football field. Parents won’t be allowed onto the field, so the school yearbook advisor will take a picture of each graduate as they receive their diploma. These pictures will be made available to parents. After the ceremony, the fire department will lead cars off the track and around Fort Pierre in a parade to celebrate.
Because there are other meaningful pieces of the traditional Stanley County High School graduation ceremony that will not be a part of this year’s event, a pre-recorded graduation video will be given to each senior. This video will include all parts of the graduation ceremony except the actual handing out of the diplomas. It will include pre-recorded versions of the welcome, invocation, and speeches, as well as the traditional senior slide show. It will also include some “bonus material” in an effort to make graduation as meaningful as possible for this year’s seniors.
In the event of bad weather, families will be notified via text and email and the rain date will be the following Sunday, May 24, at noon. Should May 24 also bring bad weather, we will move the ceremony to the Expo Center on that date.
