Charles Thomas Hollow Horn was born December 1, 1995, to Veldon Emery Hollow Horn Sr. and Lee Bear
Eagle, at I.H.S in Eagle Butte, joining two brothers at the time: Collins Justin Willie and Veldon Emmett
Hollow Horn Jr. His siblings who followed are Emily Rae Hollow Horn, Tristan LeAnn Little Wounded and
Noah Wayne Little Wounded, they were all very close.
Charles grew up in Iron Lightning, loving the open land and horses from the Dupree’s ranch as all Wakinyan
Maza children do. He also lived down in the country at the Hollow Horn Ranch where they called him
“Tumbles”. He lived in Cherry Creek briefly with his dad and June.
He attended CRST Head Start in Dupree and moved on to Dupree School, where he graduated 8 th grade. Charles
was very involved in activities, he played football, basketball and excelled in every sport he was involved in, a
leader in every aspect.
He lived a part of his teenage life with his Unci Cece, until he went to stay with his Auntie/Mom Lonna in
Albuquerque, NM in 2010-2012 where he attended Rio Grande HS and Volcano Vista HS participating in
football, basketball, and boxing. Charles loved New Mexico and all the spicy foods, he was so curious to learn
and explore while there. He was loved by his cousins like they were his siblings, he became a part of his
auntie's life. Although his time in New Mexico was short, he called it home. He was loved dearly and will be
missed.
He then decided to return to South Dakota as the big city life wasn’t for him. He enrolled in Box Elder Job
Corp, where he graduated with a Facilities Maintenance and General Education Diploma. He also attended
OLC in Eagle Butte trying to obtain his degree in IT, hoping one day to complete his degree.
He came home in 2014 and soon after became a father to Kaleigh Marie (Kaleena Hope), who he cherished and
loved so much.
He worked wherever he could, on the water/pipelines in Winner and Eagle Butte, as a cook in Faith, and
customer service at LTM in Dupree shortly before his death. Although there were few jobs, he put his
everything into whatever he was doing, that’s how he was.
Charles is survived by his mother Lee and stepfather Elwood High Elk; daughter, Kaleigh Marie; brothers:
Collins J. Willie, Veldon E. Hollow Horn Jr., and Noah W. Little Wounded; sisters: Emily Rae Hollow Horn
and Tristan L. Little Wounded; uncles: Chip Baumeister and Justin Bear Eagle; aunt, Lonna Chavez and family;
