Joyce Elaine (Searby) Alexander, 64, of Pierre, passed away July 11, 2022. A Memorial Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00am, Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Pierre. Joyce will be laid to rest with her husband Bill at Black Hills National Cemetery at 1:30pm (MST), Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

Joyce was born on November 13, 1957 in Valentine, NE to Carl Glen and Belva Jean (Scholl) Searby. The family lived in Crookston, NE until they moved to Pierre where Joyce graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in 1976. Joyce received her vocational education through Job Corp before going to work for the State of South Dakota at the South Dakota State Library. After many years of service with the state, Joyce then worked for Ben Franklin and later for Walmart, from which she retired as her health declined.
Joyce married William “Bill” R. Alexander, Jr in August 21, 1991 at the First United Methodist Church in Pierre. Together they enjoyed going to “Pre-1840’s Rendezvous” throughout the state and traveling in general. Joyce was always ready for a road trip or a cruise! She was a people person who met everyone with a big smile that was contagious. Spending time with friends and family was a great joy and when that wasn’t possible she may very well have been found reading a good book or doting on her beloved children, her cats, Sunshine and Oliver.
Joyce is survived by her siblings, sister Colleen Kayser of Rapid City, brother Frank Searby of DeWeese, NE, sister Glenda Klarich of Sheboygan, WI, and brother Steve Searby of Edgemont, sister-in-law Esther Barnes of Onida, niece Christa Roberts and her children Autumn and Delilah, niece Kayla Adams, niece Samantha Jo Klarich, niece Krisana Jakeway and her sons Thrain and Roland, nephew Jason (Marcia) Barnes, and niece Rebecca (Chuck) Buffington and their children Jacob, Alexander, and Olivia, along with numerous extended family members, friends and her beloved cats Sunshine and Oliver. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, her parents, and brother-in-law, Denny Barnes.
