The public will be invited to a memorial celebration of life for Brenda J. Lytle, 78, of Oacoma, SD at a later date.

She was raised on the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation at Fort Hale Bottom by her late Grandmother Amy Carpenter of whom she lovingly spoke about and remembered every day of her life. Brenda’s love for life was like none other and she brought joy to all. Her Lakota name is Washagia Mani Wi “Walks Strong Woman”.
Brenda attended a one room Lyman County country school and graduated from Reliance High School where she often spoke of many good times she had there with classmates and friends. She completed her Associate and Bachelor’s degree from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD.
Brenda loved to travel. She and her husband visited all 50 states and several foreign countries. She enjoyed recounting her many adventures such as riding the “L” train in Osaka, Japan or backpacking and riding the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System to the villages and small communities up there. She loved to tour Alaska and had made 12 trips to that beautiful state, driving and camping in the back country where she could experience the untouched grandeur of God’s creation. That’s where she felt closest to God.
Brenda’s work experience included being a police radio dispatcher in Chamberlain, SD. She also had a successful “Busy B” house cleaning business in Chamberlain and surrounding areas. She retired from St. Joseph’s Indian School after 25 years where she worked in Child Care.
Brenda leaves behind her beloved husband of 45 years Jerry Lytle, her eldest daughter Tara and Jeff Hall and grandson John Hall of Aberdeen and youngest daughter Kelly Harres (Kelly’s son John Patrick Breck – deceased) and Aaron Nelson of Oakes, ND. She went to be with her Creator on July 15, 2022 at the age of 78 years. She died peacefully at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD surrounded by and feeling the love from all of her family.
