Funeral services for Lorraine I. Borah, 90, of Kennebec, SD will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2022 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kennebec, SD with burial in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery at Kennebec, SD. Visitation will begin Thursday at 5:00 p.m. with a scripture/rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Kennebec, SD.
Lorraine “Dolly” Borah was born September 6, 1931, in Walworth Township, Becker County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of William and Lillian (Krause) Laubach. Lorraine passed away July 17, 2022 at Sanford Chamberlain Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Her childhood days were spent living in the country at Ulen, MN. She attended country school at Ogema, MN until 1945 and then Waubun High School where she graduated in 1949.
Lorraine (Laubach) Borah was united in marriage to Glen Borah on June 6, 1950 in Ogema, Minnesota where they made their home for a number of years. Over the years, they lived in various places between Minnesota and South Dakota. In the 60’s, they resided in Montrose, Salem and Kennebec, SD; while Glen worked the construction of Interstate 90 and she raised their six children. The 70’s found them living in Ogema, Callaway and Detroit Lakes, MN. They moved back to Kennebec, SD in 1978 and Lorraine made it her home until the time of her death.
Over the years Dolly worked various jobs. Her work career included; Norma’s Café in Presho, SD, DL Diner, Swifts turkey plant Detroit Lakes, MN, and in 1997, after working many years at the Kennebec School as a custodian, retired at the age of 65.
Dolly loved baking and cooking. For many years she hosted the Borah Sunday breakfasts making pancakes with her famous brown sugar syrup and cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed attending church at St Michael’s Catholic Church. Watching soap operas, Hallmark, and Lifetime movies, and watching her birds outside her window brought her much joy. She always looked forward to getting her hair done and going for pedicures with Gayle. She also loved attending the Borah family reunions no matter where they were held. Family meant everything to her and she was loved by many.
Dolly is survived by her sons, Steve (Mary) Borah of Kimball, SD, Wayne Borah of Kennebec, SD, Lee (Cathy) Borah of Kennebec, SD, Tim (Roxanne) Borah of Oacoma, SD, sister Janie (Barry) Perrault-Robinson, sisters in law Margaret Borah, Isabel Pederson, Genevieve Mastin, Bonnie Borah, Sylvia (Steve) Peterson, and Beatrice Laubach, and family friends Dennis Zimdars and Gayle Hines. Also 18 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dolly was preceded in death by her parents William and Lillian (Krause) Laubach, husband of 48 years Glen Borah, son David Borah, daughter Kathy (Borah) Swedberg and infant daughter Mary Ann Borah, brothers Kenny and Orly Laubach, son in law Rod Swedberg, brothers in law Jennings Borah, Wesley Borah, Verlyn Borah, Malvin Pederson, and Ivan Mastin, sisters in law Wanda (Laubach) Eliason, Ardette Borah and Alice Borah, granddaughter Shawn (Swedberg) Wishinsky and great grandchild Emerson Merrill.
