The City of Pierre will officially christen its new skate park this week.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for Thursday (July 28, 2022) at 6pm. The for skate park is located in Griffin Park and the event will feature giveaways, the Dakota Cruiser, comments from Mayor Harding and a brief skateboarding demonstration from a local skater.
The event is open to the public.
Recreation Superintendent Mindy Cheap says the skate park opened in November, but because it was late in the season, they decided to wait until summer for an official grand opening.
The 5,000 square foot concrete pad includes half pipes, quarter pipes, bank ramps, a grind ledge, jump boxes and more. Pierreās skate park was previously located just west of the current skate park. It was relocated to make way for construction of the new outdoor pool. As part of the relocation, a new pad was poured and all new equipment was purchased.
