Ruth was born in Bowman, ND to Joe and Ruth (Nickisch) Hohl on January 14, 1939. When she was a young girl, the family moved to Pontis. That was where her father had a job pumping water for the steam engines. When her father retired from the railroad they moved to the east side of Mobridge into a remodeled railroad car. From there she attended the Mobridge school system. Always earning excellent grades and reminding her children about winning the school spelling bee! After graduating in 1957, Ruth worked at the Citizens Bank until marrying Ted Anderson in 1963. Then her job became chief cook and bottle washer for the next 59 years, meals of wheels for the planting and harvesting crews for too many years to count and chauffeuring Glen and Kent around for their school activities. After all of that, she still had time and energy to be the treasurer for the Norway Lutheran Ladies Aid for several years.
Ruth made many friends during her school days. Many of those friends stayed in touch for several years through a “Round Robin” letter. She would spend many hours writing about her activities that she had done to send on to the next person on the list. We tried to teach her about “group texting” but she preferred the pen and paper.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Ted; sons, Glen (Mary Jo) Anderson, Kent (Melanie) Anderson; grandchildren, Brady (Amber) Aberle, Courtney Anderson, Cassidy Anderson, Caitlyn Anderson, Drew Svihovec, Tyler Svihovec; great grandchildren, Jagger and Jett Aberle; brother-in-law, Jim Steinwand; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ruth Hohl; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty (Melvin) Schanzenbach, Francis (Eugene) Batson, Kathy Steinwand; brothers and sister-in-law, Joe (Mary Ellen) Hohl and John Hohl.
