Johna Leidholt, 58 passed away peacefully on August 10, 2022 in Pierre, South Dakota after a long and courageous battle with Ataxia SCA 3, a genetic disease. A Scripture Service will be held on Wednesday, August 24th at 11:00am at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ft. Pierre. The family will greet visitors at Isburg Funeral Chapel from 5:00-6:00pm on Tuesday, August 23rd followed by a 6:00pm Prayer Service. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre. Johna was born on May 12, 1964 to John Zeller and Hitomi “Patsy” (Kimura) Zeller in Rapid City, South Dakota. She graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre in 1982. Johna attended Black Hills State University (BHSU) and graduated in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Prior to and while attending BHSU, she worked for Hardees Corporation traveling from store to store trouble-shooting technical and accounting difficulties until after her graduation. In August of 1996, Johna started a new chapter of her career with the State of South Dakota in the Department of Transportation in Pierre where she worked until her retirement in 2019.
On June 4, 1998, Johna married Ken Leidholt, where she also acquired three girls, Amy, Beth, and Julie. Ken, Johna, and the girls enjoyed many years that brought travel, adventure, and love. Johna was a devoted grandmother to her six grandchildren and loved to spend time with them while simultaneously spoiling each one. She always took special care to ensure each one knew how loved they were. Johna’s grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of her kind spirit, passion for adventure, love of reading, and zest for life will live on through them.
Prior to filling her free time with her grandchildren’s laughter and happiness, Johna was active in many community clubs and groups such as the Women of Today and the Scrappin’ Ladies. During this time, Johna met many friends that she adored. She left a profound impact on the lives of many and will forever hold a special place in the countless hearts she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Ken; Amy (Tim Iron Thunder) Boxley, Beth Leidholt, Julie (Mark) Leidholt-Brueggeman; her grandchildren, Jayda Boxley, Madison Leidholt, Auston Boxley, Oliver Brueggeman, Atlas Brueggeman, and Hadley Iron Thunder; her sisters, Linda (Jim) Lipp, Ellen (Bob) Zeller-Mercer; and brother, Anthony (Robyn) Zeller; and her nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Corrine Leidholt, brother-in-laws- TJ (Jamie) Wiebe, Troy (Jeri) Wiebe, Trevor (Amber) Wiebe, sister-in-law Cari Leidholt, and Aunt Janis Bergeson, cousin Danette (Buddy) Cronin and family.
Johna was preceded in death by her father, John; mother, Patsy; sister, Christine; father-in-law Jerry Leidholt, mother-in-law Shirley Leidholt, & brother-in-law Ron Leidholt.
