Elvira White Wolf, 65, of Red Scaffold, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, at her home in Red Scaffold.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., MDT, Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Red Scaffold Gym, Red Scaffold. Burial will follow in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Red Scaffold. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2022, at the gym, with a procession from the water tower west of town at 4:00 p.m.
Elvira White Wolf was born May 5, 1957 in Red Scaffold, SD at the “Old Place,” to Moses and Orpha White Wolf. She attended elementary school in Red Scaffold and high school in Eagle Butte. During her senior year of high school, she was selected by the student body as Homecoming Queen and graduated in 1975. After high school she worked as a teacher’s aide at the Cheyenne River Headstart program for eight years. In January 1996, she worked as Home Base Educator for the (F.A.C.E) Family and Child Education for seven years and in 2003 she was selected from the National Center for Parents as Teachers program to become a FACE Technical Assistance Consultant for the Baby Face Program. She worked with six sites across North and South Dakota. She also worked for the Aberdeen Area Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board as a site coordinator for four years. She was also a part of the Tri-Community Development and a Treasurer for the Board of Directors. She also served on the CRST Hiring Board for four years and on the Parish Council Member for the Sacred Heart Church at Red Scaffold for two years. She was elected to serve on the Johnson O’Malley Board for the Dupree School for two years. She also served on the Super 8 Board of Directors.
Her hobbies were sewing, beading moccasins, leggings, chokers, earrings, cape, barrettes, cooking casseroles, baking, and her specialty was making frybread. She enjoyed reading Danielle Steele books. She also liked to take time to sit, relax and enjoy nature. Growing up, she had a horse named “Brownie” and she enjoyed being around horses, combing and feeding them. But mostly she enjoyed spending every bit of her time listening to and watching her grandchildren.
In May of 2005 she obtained her Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education and in 2010 she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Lakota Studies with an emphasis in Indian Law, Associate of Arts degree in Tribal Law, Lakota Studies and a Lakota Language Certificate from the Oglala Lakota College. Her dream came true to achieve her goal of returning to school and succeeding to help provide for her children and grandchildren. The most important thing in her life was the love she had for her children and grandchildren.
Elvira is survived by her brother and sisters: Sadie White Wolf, Burtis (Diana) White Wolf Sr., Jackie (Reggie) LeClaire; daughters: Jerilyn Chasing Hawk, Tiffany Chasing Hawk, Tondee Strand, Tyrell Chasing Hawk; nieces, nephews and grandkids: Lenita White Wolf, Melanie (Jon) Little Wounded, Darilyn LeClaire, Derek LeClaire, Lanley LeClaire, Jace LeClaire, Kim White Wolf, Huey (Michelle) White Wolf, Crissy (Tyler) White Wolf, Jason (Nicole) White Wolf, Mashawn White Wolf, late BJ White Wolf, Misty White Wolf, Ricki, Lacey, Larissa, Jesilyn, Breann, Chloe, McKayden, Tracelyn, Kaesyn, Starlianna, Starzalea, Starlasia, Preston, Ashley, Adrianna, Aliaunna, Jasmine, Machelle, Amiayha, Nat, Hailey, Hannah, Angel, Layken, Dex, Jade, Tradjen, Trevor, Collin, Cole, RaShad, Douglas III, Mason, Sequoia, Ayden, Chance, Levi, Trace, Trey, Jaxson, Sumner, Tyler, Thunder, Kayle, Jace, Jorden, Neidon, Kade, George, Coco Paige, Koree, Teo, Wynter, Kiora, Zia, and Sidney Rose.
