Mark Seftner stepped aside as the Chargers’ head coach after 15 seasons and was replaced by longtime assistant Tom Moore. Sully Buttes, who was 4-5 last season and lost in the first round of the 9B playoffs, returns several experienced players, including quarterback Landon Hepker and fullback Thomas Farries.
Moore had been an assistant for the Chargers for 17 seasons.
Moore was asked if there will be any differences from how Sully Buttes has done things in the past.
Moore pointed out that Sully Buttes was a young team last season and will be young again this season.
Stanley County won their last four regular season games in 2021 after a 1-4 start to make the 9AA playoffs, where they lost at Lyman. A core of seniors graduated, leaving new starters at skill positions, including quarterback Broch Zeeb. Senior receiver Chase Hanson and linemen Nathaniel Nelson and Tyler Leiferman will be counted on for leadership.
Head Coach Max Foth doesn’t want to mindset of having so many young players to be something bad.
Foth has only five seniors on his roster.
Foth was asked what the Buffaloes must do well to win the opener.
Friday’s game will be on 1060/103.1 KGFX, starting at 6:30 PM. Online video coverage will be at the KGFX page at the DRG News app and drgnews.com.
