A record breaking number of youths are converging on the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre this weekend (Aug. 19-21, 2022) for the South Dakota 4-H Finals Rodeo.
Tyson Paxton from Timber Lake is the Vice President of the South Dakota State Finals Rodeo. He says there is approximately 665 competitors between the junior and senior divisions.
Paxton says South Dakota is one of only two states with an organized 4-H Rodeo program. He says participants range in age from 8 to 18 years old and are competing for saddles, belt buckles and other prizes.
This is the third year in a row Fort Pierre has hosted the state 4-H Finals Rodeo. Last year (2021), there were 637 contestants and in 2020, there were 499 qualifiers.
Performance times are 5pm CT today (Aug. 19, 2022), 9am and 5pm CT tomorrow and 9am CT on Sunday. Spectator admission cost is $25 per person for all performances or $10 per person per performance.
