Funeral services for Joseph E. “Joe” Peddycoart, 83, of Oacoma, SD will be 11:00 a.m., Monday September 12, 2022 at the Hickey Funeral Chapel with burial following at Graceland Cemetery in Oacoma, SD. Visitation will begin to the public at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
Joseph “Joe” Eugene Peddycoart was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Joe left this world to be with the lord September 7, 2022 at the age of 83.
Joe was born to Orvel and Florence (Hanten) Peddycoart on October 27, 1938 in Dundee, Minnesota. After working on the family farm, Joe joined the United States Army. He proudly served as a Corporal in a transportation unit based in Germany from 1961-1964. Joe was very proud of his service and loved to tell old Army stories. After leaving the Army he moved to Oacoma, South Dakota where he met the love of his life Margey (Pickner) Peddycoart. Joe and Margey were united in marriage on July 9, 1966. Joe worked many different jobs over the years including; construction, ranch hand on the Kennobie farm, city of Chamberlain, and finally his Job at the Corps of Engineers, Big Bend Dam where he worked for over 18 years as a heavy equipment operator before retiring.
Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, bird watching his pugs Sadie and Jewels and cat Batman, he really got a thrill from playing penny slots at the local casinos with his partner in crime Margey. His pride and joy were his two children Penny and Chris, and his grandchildren Taylor, Kendall, Joseph, Canyon, and Carter. He was very proud of his children and cherished every moment he had with them. He really enjoyed spending time with and talking to the grandchildren on Facetime. Grandpa always had a good joke for them. He also had a very special niece, Briana Pickner. She and her Uncle Joe had a very special bond, they loved their weekend visits and enjoyed harassing each other. He and Margey also had a very special relationship with Doug and Bryan Mahrt and the others that enjoyed many good times at the man cave next door.
Joe is survived by his wife Margey Peddycoart, daughter Penny Peddycoart and Marty Waugh, son Chris and Cari Peddycoart, grandchildren Taylor and Jeffery Solmone, Kendall Dill and Decklen Hollinghead, Joseph Peddycoart, Canyon Peddycoart, and Carter Peddycoart, great grandchildren Nova and Cade Solmone, siblings Bob and Margret Peddycoart, Pat and Judy Peddycoart, sister Alice Cook, brother in law Mike and Nancy Pickner, Robert John and Gloria Pickner, and Bob and Mary Dreewes he also had many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Orvel and Florence Peddycoart, father and mother in law Lawrence and Leone Pickner, brother Thomas Peddycoart, brother in law Lawrence Pickner, nephews Tony Peddycoart and Rod Hickey, niece Annette Peddycoart, and great nephew Monte Pickner.
