Funeral services for PFC Melvin James Little Bear will be at 10 AM, CT, Friday, September 30, 2022, at the Little Eagle Blue Gym. Burial will be at the All Nations Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends will leave Kesling Funeral Home on Thursday at 4 PM for an all night wake at the blue gym with services at 7 PM. PFC Melvin Little Bear passed away on July 21, 1951 as a POW in Korea. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Melvin James Little Bear was born to John Little Bear and Agnes Little Bear (Fire Cloud) on February 23, 1930.
John Little Bear came from Canada, met Agnes Fire Cloud in Little Eagle SD. They made their home just north west of the community. Together they had nine children, Zelda Little Bear, Eva (Spotted Horse), Ramona (Has Horns), Florence (Farrell), Marie (Red Fox), Lydia (Weasel), Elias Little Bear, Whitney Little Bear and Melvin Little Bear.
Melvin enlisted in the US Army at age of 17 years old. John and Agnes signed for him to enlist, and he never returned home from the Korean War…
Melvin’s Nephew Garry Weasel (US Army 3rd Infantry “The Old Guard” Presidential and Ceremonial Escort to the President) will be the flag keeper for Melvin.
Melvin’s Nieces and nephews are Dennis, Whitney, Lambert, Virginia, Kenny and Marcell Spotted Horse, Mary Ann and Fern Has Horns, the Skinners, Agards, Farrells, Waldo and Lynn Red Fox, Leroy, Gary, and Ila Weasel, Nelson, William Sr., Heather, Chaske, Bill and Nicole Little Bear, Sharon, Jessica, Ron, Eric Little Bear, Charles Murphy and Genevieve Murphy, Amanda, Lilia, and Roberto Hernandez, Elisa, Jason and Sean Weasel, and Maurice Agard.
