Funeral services for Peggy Vammer, 73, of Selby will be at 11 AM, Friday, January 6, 2023 at Norway Lutheran Church, rural Glenham. Burial will be at Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be at 5 PM Thursday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Peggy passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.
Peggy Jean Vammer was born on July 3, 1949, in Mobridge. She was the oldest child born to Phillip and Elma (Wessel) Vammer She grew up on a farm north of Glenham. She loved being on the farm. Her mother passed away in 1980 and Peggy and her father remained on the farm until his health forced them to move into Mobridge in 1990. Shortly after moving into town her father passed away. Peggy lived with different family members for a year being placed in a foster home in Dickinson, ND, where her brother, Dan, lived. She lived with her foster parents, Joe and Dottie Zilkowski in South Heart, ND, until 2012 when she moved into the Selby Good Samaritan Center where she has since resided. While in the care center she started collecting pop tabs to help a family to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. She made it her mission to try and collect every tab she could find.
Peggy attended special ed school in Herreid and Mobridge and very much enjoyed it. Peggy also enjoyed scrabble, carom boards, and looking through newspapers. She liked anything that went fast it didn’t matter if it was a boat, ATV, motorcycle or car. She kept herself busy coloring, drawing and doing puzzles. She liked to keep pictures of family and friends in her purse and be able to show them off. She loved parties and especially her birthday parties. Beings how Peggy was born close to the fourth of July she had a fondness for the American flag whether it was hanging outside or a on a shirt she had.
Peggy is survived by her sister, Patty (Dave) Baumann of Mobridge and their son, Scott, brother, Dallas (Denise) Vammer of Severance, CO, and their son, Aaron (Katie) and their children, Ellie Mae and Cody Paul, sister-in-law, Mary (Jerry) Seil of Elko, NV, and her daughter, Keri (Brandon), sister-in-law, Pam Vammer of Williamsburg, MI, and her daughters, Jocelyn (Jason Tate) and Maddie (Nate) and their children, EllaSophia and Juliette and numerous cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dan and Paul, and her foster parents, Dottie and Joe Zilkowski.
