Shirley J. Nagel, 87, of Gettysburg passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at her home in Shell Knob, MO, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, with Pastor David Otten presiding. Burial will be in the Gettysburg Cemetery. A prayer service will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2022, with visitation one-hour prior, all at the church.
Shirley Jean Reichenbach was born August 28, 1935, in Pierre, South Dakota to John N. and Maybelle (Bear) Reichenbach. She attended and graduated from Gettysburg High School.
After receiving her education, Shirley went to work at the Gambles Store in Gettysburg, as well as the Gettysburg Radar Base. Shirley met Karl Nagel at a dance in Lebanon, SD. They were married January 17, 1955. Together they made their home in Gettysburg and welcomed three children: Debra, Cynthia and Karlton. Karl’s occupation moved the family to Chamberlain, SD then Omaha, NE. They retired to the Black Hills of South Dakota and wintered in Arizona for over 30 years where they made many wonderful friends.
Shirley enjoyed her down time camping, fishing, and bowling. She was the bowling league secretary for several years.
Shirley’s life will be cherished by her husband, Karl; daughters: Debra (Roger) Martz and Cynthia (Randy) Schilling, all of Shell Knob, MO; son, Karlton (Molly) Nagel of Brownsville, NE; grandchildren: Dustin (Stephanie) Schilling, Keith Martz, Kelsey Martz, Kira (Matthew) Schilling-Blais, and Jessica (Christopher) Nagel-Spaulding; and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters: Kathryn Loitwood, Dorothy Raasch, and JoAnn Strader.
