Lois Marie Hutchison Warner was born May 2, 1927, at her Grandparents’ Crusinbery farm home in rural Woods County, Oklahoma, to her parents John Alfred Hutchison and Helen Marie Crusinbery Hutchison. She was the oldest of four children, Robert, Verna Lea and John.
She finished grade school at rural Twin Oaks School, where she was known to ride her pony two miles to school. She graduated from high school at Waynoka, Oklahoma in 1945. She was married to Richard Lee Warner on June 13, 1945. Richard and Lois were married nearly 70 years before he passed in 2015.
The family farmed in Woods County until 1958 when they moved to a ranch in Lyman County, South Dakota. In 1976 they moved to Sully County, near Onida, SD, and developed a farm from rocky pastureland. Richard and Lois retired from the farm and moved to a home in Pierre, SD in 1996 and onto Parkwood senior apartments in 2011.
Lois excelled as a pianist playing for the churches in Oklahoma, Chamberlain, SD, and Onida, SD, as well as many home get-togethers. She taught music lessons to many local children where ever she lived and taught music and choir at the school in Reliance, SD and other local schools. Many family get-togethers and holidays found the family singing and playing instruments around the piano until the wee hours of the morning. Especially memorable was her brother Bob joining in on the fiddle.
Lois loved sewing and gardening. Richard and Lois both were spiritual leaders in their family and churches they attended. They truly had the gift of hospitality. Lois always had a positive attitude and encouraging words to share. She was a prayer warrior on behalf of many over the years. Lois also kept abreast of the political climate of both the state and federal government and was an avid reader. Lois also led a hymn sing-along at Parkwood on Wednesdays playing the grand piano for residents and guests. Her hands became very unsteady as she grew older, but she could play beautifully nearly up to the day of her death.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, her daughter, Ronda L. Warner Todd, daughter-in-law, Aimee V. Warner, grandson, Scott Warner, great grandson, Elijah Lee Harkins, sister, Verna Lea Webb, brothers, John Hutchison and Robert Hutchison.
Lois is survived by her children, Reta (Richard) Harkins, Ekalaka, MT, Kirby (Deb) Warner, Morristown, AZ, Joe (Barb) Warner, Onida, SD, Dow (Cindee) Warner, Pierre, SD, Son-in-law Dan (Connie) Todd, Pierre, SD, 12 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
Memorials can be directed to Sunshine Bible Academy, Miller, SD for the new girls’ dorm building fund.
