The TeamMates Mentoring program in Pierre is in its third year of matching middle and high school youths to adults with similar interests.
Pierre coordinator Renae Lehman says they currently have 25 matches.
Mentor Kim Leiferman says TeamMates has policies in place to ensure the safety of the mentees and the mentors.
Lehman says training is offered each month, so the first step for both mentees and mentors is filling out the application at www.teammates.org.
Along with Pierre, other schools in South Dakota with a TeamMates Mentoring program are Belle Fourche, Custer-Hermosa School District, Lead-Deadwood, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Spearfish.
January is National Mentoring Month and this year’s theme is “Share Your Shine.”
