Mary S. O’Connor, 81, of Fort Pierre, passed away January 30, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family.
Visitation will be held 5:00-6:00pm, Thursday, February 9, 2023 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Pierre, concluding with a Rosary/Wake Service at 6:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, February 10, 2023 at St. John’s Catholic Church with interment following at Scotty Philip Cemetery.

Mary was born in Plankinton, SD on August 25, 1941 to Raymond and Adeline DeJean as the middle child of ten brothers and sisters. Mary graduated from Cavour High School in 1959 and continued education to become a registered nurse at St. Johns School of Nursing in Huron, SD where she graduated in 1962. She continued her nursing career in Huron, Black Hills Army Depot, Edgemont, State Veterans Home in Hot Springs, and the Veterans Hospital in Hot Springs until she retired in 2006.
Don and Mary were married in 1964 and located to Hot Springs, SD where they were blessed with two adopted children, Cory and Brenda. She had a never stop attitude between work and all other activities including her children’s sports, 4H and all ranch activities. After her retirement, Don and Mary lived their retirement life in Fort Pierre, SD where she began drag racing, winning many races and championships in her class. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Kenny, Evan, and Larry (Julie). She is survived and lovingly remembered by her loving husband Don, son Cory (Kim), and daughter Brenda (Jeff-Fiancé), brothers Donny (Donna), David (Penny), Ralph (Connie), Rodger (Judy), Gary (Shelly), sister Connie, two grandchildren Shawn and Gage and numerous nieces and nephews.
