The ESD Conference Cross Country Meet featured strong performances across the varsity, junior varsity, and middle school races, with several teams earning top finishes and numerous runners placing near the front of their fields. Harrisburg and Brandon Valley led the way in the varsity competitions, while Pierre T.F. Riggs and Mickelson Middle School stood out in the middle school races.
Boys Results
Brandon Valley won the boys varsity team title with 47 points, finishing well ahead of second-place Yankton, which scored 83. Harrisburg placed third with 108 points. Brandon Valley showed impressive team depth, placing five runners in the top 19.
Tate DeVries of Aberdeen Central won the individual varsity race in 15:54.9, narrowly ahead of Watertown’s Dane Stark, who finished in 15:55.5. Brookings’ Dylan Haar took third in 16:00.8, while Brandon Valley’s Ethan Kyte finished fourth in 16:16.6. Yankton’s Luke Feimer rounded out the top five.
In the boys junior varsity race, Brandon Valley and Harrisburg tied for the team lead with 33 points each. Harrisburg’s Westin Schumacher earned the individual victory in 14:00.7, followed closely by Brandon Valley’s Joseph Hornbeck-Lush in 14:05.8.
Pierre T.F. Riggs captured the boys middle school team title with 41 points. Yankton’s John Jacobson won the individual race in 10:43.8, while Harrisburg’s Bryce Bockholt finished second in 10:50.0. Pierre’s Landry Blake placed third in 10:50.1, helping his team secure the championship.
Girls Results
Harrisburg dominated the girls varsity competition, winning the team title with just 30 points. Brookings finished second with 68 points, followed by Yankton with 81 and Watertown with 89.
Harrisburg also claimed the top two individual spots. Brianna Reilly won the race in 17:30.7, while teammate Hannah Genrich finished second in 18:10.7. Brookings’ Kaylie Kuehl placed third in 18:39.2, followed by Yankton’s Nora Youmans in fourth and Watertown’s Grace McElroy in fifth.
Harrisburg continued its success in the girls junior varsity race, winning the team competition with 17 points. Brookings finished second with 42 points. Genevieve Decker of Tea Area won the individual race in 16:56.5, while Harrisburg’s Claire McCallum and Noelle Gabriel finished second and third, respectively.
In the girls middle school race, Mickelson Middle School from Brookings took first place with 39 points, narrowly defeating Harrisburg, which scored 46. Aberdeen Central finished third with 63 points. Harrisburg’s Greer Stearns won the individual race in 12:10.0, just three seconds ahead of Mickelson’s Madison Keller, who finished in 12:13.0.
