Several members of the Pierre Police Department have been recognized for their lifesaving efforts and longevity in service at the annual Police Department Appreciation Banquet (Feb. 16, 2023) recapping events from 2022.
Officer Nathan Howell and Detective Kaitlin Cummings were both awarded their second 5 year star in recognition of ten years of service each to the Pierre Police Department.
Also recognized were School Resource Officer Jacob Harlow and Animal Control Officer Farley Zuber for 5 years with the Police Department.
Awards of Lifesaving were presented to Officer Lee Coppersmith, Justin Harmon, Jonah Rechtenbaugh, Clayton Green, John Weber and Matthew Shaver for various events responded to by Patrol Officers on duty in service to our community that resulted in the saving of a life through their actions taken on scene.
Also recognized as part of Central SD Communications center was Lauren Sharkey with a Dispatch Merit Award for assisting a family of an infant choking and turning blue with over the phone instructions to clear the airway. Brayden Key was awarded a Medical Assist award for lifesaving measures and instructions given over the phone to assist with CPR instructions and deployment of an AED as first responders arrived on scene.
