Cody James Baloun was born September 27, 1976, in Casper, WY to Perry and Bernadette (Venjohn) Baloun. He received his education in Highmore, graduating in 1995. Cody went on to Lake Area Tech in Watertown, earning a degree in diesel mechanics.
In 1996, Cody married Jacqueline Lesselyoung. They made their home in Watertown and welcomed one son, Cole. After his graduation, Cody returned to the family farm. Cody took in all that life had to offer snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and shooting darts with friends any chance that he could. However, work was always a top priority leaving little time for his hobbies.
In 2006, he married Beth Michaels and welcomed two more sons: Wyatt and Chase. Cody loved spending his days teaching his three boys about the love he had for farming and livestock. He was proud to teach them all about livestock genetics and the practices of farming and ranching. Cody loved everything about the farm, especially planting which led to his business work doing custom planting for others.
Above all, Cody was proud to support his kids in all that they did, be it sports, 4-H, shooting sports, or summer rec activities. He was also a wonderful uncle, always taking time to visit with his nieces and nephews and teach them the many fun things the farm had to offer. Cody was proud to serve as a guide for hunters visiting the area. He loved showing them the land and true beauty of South Dakota. Guiding allowed him to make many friends and he truly never met a stranger as he could visit with anyone as if they had been friends forever.
Forever grateful for celebrating Cody’s life are his sons: Cole (Abby), Summerset, SD and Wyatt and Chase, Faulkton; parents: Perry and Bernadette, Highmore; grandmother, Mary Ann Baloun, Highmore; siblings: Dawn (Tate) Switzer, Circle, MT and Melissa (Brandon) Burgad, Hinton, IA; nieces and nephews: Koen, Tegan, and Paityn Switzer and Bryley, Avery, and Baelyn Burgad; his beloved cow dog, Nala; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Briana; grandparents: Arnold and Minnie Venjohn and Burton Baloun; cousins: Tony and Lindsey Venjohn; aunt, Patrice Baloun; and uncle, Ed Venjohn.
In lieu of flowers, a fund for the boys has been established at Dacotah Bank, Faulkton.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Cody’s arrangements.
