Funeral services for Julie A. Johnson, 38, of Lower Brule, SD will be Monday, April 10, 2023 at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD with burial in the Messiah Episcopal Cemetery at Iron Nation, SD. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Julie passed away on April 4, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 38 years.
Julie Ann Johnson was born on November 13, 1984 to Alvin “Bull” Johnson Sr. and Donita (Horn) Johnson at Mid-Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain, SD. Julie attended Head Start, elementary, and high school at Lower Brule before attending Flandreau Indian School. She graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 2003.
Julie enjoyed beading, reading books, and tagging people in memes on Facebook. She also enjoyed listening to music and taking walks with her boys. Julie worked as a child-care provider for many years at the Lower Brule Daycare center. She truly enjoyed her job until her health condition prevented her from working.
On March 30th, 2011, Julie gave birth to her son Kyle “Kubbie” Johnson with her special friend Leroy Goodface. With Julie’s kind, generous heart, she raised two nieces, Krista and Meredith Blaine, as well as her nephew, Kyren Johnson as her own.
Julie is survived by her kids Kyle, Krista, Mary, and Kyren,and her special friend LeRoy, her mother Donita, sisters Elaine (John) Olson, Melinda (Dean) Lacota, Ramona Johnson, Alvita (Lamar) Neash, Kelly (Rylin) Holiday. Brothers Alvin Johnson, Sr, Andrew (Teresa) Mumford, Joel Johnson, Arlen Johnson, Kendall (Judy LaRoche) Johnson, Sr, Bryce Johnson. Nephews Malcolm Andrews, Jacob Lacota, Mamut Blaine, Arnold Sazue, Cory Castaway, Sebastian Johnson, Rylin Holiday Jr., Micah Lacota, Dylan Castaway, Taitum Johnson, Kendall Johnson Jr., Ezra Johnson, and Teagan Johnson. Nieces Lakita Andrews, Mallory Andrews, Mya Sazue, Danielle Lacota, Adara Holiday, Eliza Johnson, and Elora Johnson. Grandchildren Keturah Harrison, Atlee Harrison, and Raelee Blaine.
Julie was preceded in death by her father Alvin, brother Thomas, sister Alvina, nieces Rianne, Deja, Bethany, Amanda, nephew Nathan and granddaughter Kaytana.
