Gordon L. Anderson, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 18, 2023, in Pierre, SD. Born on June 21, 1941, in Pine River, MN, Gordon was the son of the late Roy H. and Esther M. (Jensen) Anderson. He was 81 years old.
Gordon was a proud member of the first graduating class of T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre in 1959. Following his graduation Gordon pursued a career in trucking, where he enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. It wasn’t long before his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start Anderson Tire in Fort Pierre. Over the years, Gordon expanded the business to include full-service shops in both Pierre and Fort Pierre, as well as Winner, SD. The tire business flourished for over 40 years before he retired and sold it to WW Tire.
Gordon married the love of his life, Kay (Harrington) Anderson in 1958, and together they raised two wonderful children, Ken Anderson and Darcy McGuigan. Gordon and Kay spent 64 ½ years working and playing together. Gordon was a devoted father who always made time for his children and supported their dreams. He was equally dedicated to his grandchildren and attended concerts, plays, meets, football and baseball games, proudly cheering them on. Gordon is survived by his wife, Kay; their children, Ken Anderson (wife Robin) and Darcy McGuigan (husband Charles); and their grandchildren, Andy, Alex, Nicole, and Christopher.
Gordon had a passion for golfing, coffee with friends, hunting, fishing, boating and camping. He cherished the time he spent with his friends and family, participating in outdoor activities and enjoying the beauty of nature. Gordon and Kay have an amazing group of lifelong friends spending time square dancing, camping, golfing, or even just going out for dinner. Gordon and Kay enjoyed over 25 years of winters in Arizona at “Happy Trails” golfing and enjoying time with friends, both old and new. These memories will be cherished by all who knew him and serve as a testament to his love for life and adventure.
In addition to his parents, Roy and Esther Anderson, Gordon was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Knutson, and two infant sons Tony and Mark. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Gordon L. Anderson’s legacy will live on through the love he shared with his family, the friendships he formed, and the countless lives he touched with his generous spirit. May he rest in peace knowing that he made a lasting impact on the world around him.
