She was asked to play with team North Dakota at the North American Indeginious Games (at the time) which is now called NABI. Unfortunately, the team went down in the final game and end up with a silver medal. She was the only player in the area to bring back a Silver medal representing Standing Rock. Her beautiful son Joachim. Early on in high school, Ivonna told us all that if she ever has a baby, his name will be Joachim. So we all knew what his name would be. Ivonna made the conscious decision that in spite of all the medical difficulties she would face she wanted her son. She endured enormous amount of insulin on a daily basis and even with that she may not be able to carry Joachim to full term. She took very good care of herself and carried him to 7 months. After, a routine doctor visit it was decided by the medical staff that they would need to take Joachim immediately to save them both. Brittnee, as her sister stayed by her side. Joachim came into this world on June 12, 2019 and from that moment on Joachim was her world and our world. Voni had many talents, she loved to organize, sort and make sure our home was functional. She was always doing DIY projects around the house. She learned and begin to perfect frybread making and she could make the best gabubu bread. She won gabubu making contest the family had. She loved to help and was working on her auntie Jolene’s Auxiliary shawl. Voni and her long time friend Travis came back into her life and they were getting reacquainted. Voni was very proud of herself because she was in recovery. She loved to go to thrift store especially on bag day. One of best known things about Voni is, she was a very accepting person, caring and kind. She would help families in need of food or supplies.
