PIERRE – Two good chances for the first win of 2023 fell short Tuesday for Post 8 as Watertown swept a doubleheader at Hyde Stadium 7-6 and 10-8. Post 8 is now 0-13.
Game 1: Watertown 7, Post 8 6
After trailing 7-0, Post 8 came back in the opener, scoring five runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth. In the fifth inning, Jett Zabel had an RBI fielder’s choice, Matthew Hanson had an RBI single, Carter Sanderson hit an RBI double and Ridge Leimbach singled in a run. Nolan Petersen’s sixth-inning RBI single cut the Watertown lead to a run, but the Eights were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh. Errors again hurt Post 8 as they committed five.
Game 2: Watertown 10, Post 8 8
Post 8 had two four-run leads, but Watertown grabbed the lead to stay with a six-run sixth inning. Drew Denzer’s three-run double capped that rally.
Jonny Lyons gave the Eights their first three runs with a first-inning homer. Sanderson had three hits and two RBI.
