Jeremy Michael Schad, 48, of Lantry, South Dakota passed away at the Schad residence on June 26th, 2023. Ozzy, the family dog was by his side.
Jeremy was born in Mobridge, South Dakota on November 12th, 1974 to Sidney and Verna Schad. He had attended elementary school in Lantry and middle and high school at Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, graduating in 1993. After earning a degree in Law Enforcement from Western Dakota Vo-Tech, Jeremy returned home to work for the CRST Walter Miner Law Enforcement Police Department. He also worked briefly with the Department of Social Services in Eagle Butte and helped his father with the family farm every year (since childhood) before becoming a full-time, self-employed businessman.
In 2005, after a brief telephone conversation with a gentleman in Minnesota, he launched his career as business owner and operator of Eagle Storage LLC. That phone call was part of a foundational framework that created a lasting friendship and mentorship up until the time of Jeremy’s death. It became evident quite quickly that being an entrepreneur was Jeremy’s area of expertise. Over the next several years, Eagle Storage would be providing storage unit services to the members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, eventually expanding across communities, businesses, homes, and reservations throughout the western part of South Dakota and areas in North Dakota.
In 2017, Jeremy expanded his business operations to include temporary event fencing as well as permanent residential and business fencing. He valued and expressed the need to create employment opportunities, fund the local economy, and find innovative way to approach addressing resource needs of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. He had spent several years serving on the board of directors for the Four Bands Community Fund. This gave Jeremy the opportunity to be directly involved in making a positive change for his community by encouraging and promoting entrepreneurship.
Jeremy enjoyed spending time with his family, for any occasion. If there was no holiday in site, he would often create an occasion or a ‘made-up’ dad holiday to gather the ‘Schadlings’ for a meal he would prepare for his family. He had been an avid sports fan and was a devoted Rapid City RUSH and Rapid City Marshals fan. But the pride of Jeremy’s sports world, came in the sense of being a Cowboys Nation enthusiast. It was not uncommon to find him and Rikki in Dallas throughout the NFL season, attending football games.
Jeremy and Rikki Lynn Hall were married on June 28th, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They became the parents to Sydney (1997) and twins, Matthew & Mya (2002).
Jeremy was preceded in death by his father, Sidney Schad and sister, Erin Elizabeth; paternal and maternal grandparents, Donald and Helen Schad and Robert and Jean Rose.
He is survived by his wife, Rikki and their 3 children; Sydney Nicole of Lantry, Matthew Ryan of Lantry, and Mya Michael of Rapid City. One brother, Ryan Schad of Portland, Oregon. Mother, Verna Carns (Ed) of Delta Junction, Alaska. Godchild, Asa Alu Knife, Dupree, SD.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Schad residence in Lantry on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, beginning at 5:00 P.M. with Funeral services the following day at the same location, beginning at 11:00 A.M.
An account has been established at the State Bank of Eagle Butte in memorial of Jeremy Schad. He had cherished his Eagle Butte community and spoke of ways he could give back. In the future we hope to honor him in ways of scholarship, sponsorship, and a place to gather.
