Dean Leslie Haney of Oklahoma City was a loving husband and father and a hardworking man with an immense fondness for animals. He left this world peacefully on June 16, 2023, at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Dean was born in Casper, Wyoming to Don and Wilma Haney on May 27, 1954. He spent his youth in Wyoming and Oklahoma, working in Yellowstone National Park as a teenager, before graduating from Classen High School. He met the love of his life, his wife Kristi LaVel King (Sammi) at the Westerneer Ballroom in 1978 where they danced to Margaritaville. A year later they married and together they raised a hardworking son and an adventurous daughter, both of whom inherited their father’s love of animals, and who Dean couldn’t have been more proud of.
Dean had a strong passion for music with some favorites being Neil Young, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix. He loved attending concerts with his kids and learning to play his favorite songs on the guitar. He was a lifelong football fan, especially devoted to his Cowboys. His stoic expression hid a sometimes silly personality, often a birthday gift of new underwear would be immediately repurposed as a hat. After retiring in May of 2022 he was able to devote more time to his recent hobbies of working on his Porsche, growing wildflowers for the butterflies, and sending everyone his favorite internet cat videos.
Dean is survived by his wife Kristi (Sammi), son Derek and his girlfriend Karrie Stevens, daughter Kelin, Karrie’s children Anjalee Stevens and Jacob Forester, his half brother Don Haney and wife Erica, aunts, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his father Don Haney, mother Wilma Kirsten, father-in-law Bud King, mother-in-law Dona King, grandparents, and others.
A Memorial Service will be held at Feigum Funeral Home on Friday, June 30th at 2 PM.
